Why Derrick Rose Is a Hall of Famer

Is Derrick Rose a Hall of Famer? that is the question everyone wants to know. The answer should be yes. As a rookie, Rose came out the gates with pure athleticism. He averaged 16.8 points and 6.3 assists per game as a rookie while shooting 47% from the field. Rose went on to be part of the 2008-09 All-Rookie team and won the Rookie of the Year Award.

Peak Derrick Rose

Rose followed his outstanding rookie season with an excellent second year. But it was in his third season where everything came together. In the 2010-11 season, Rose averaged 25 points and 7.7 assists per game while shooting 44% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc. The point guard helped lead the Chicago Bulls to 62 wins and became the youngest player to take home the NBA MVP award. Rose was outstanding this season; his athleticism was off the chart; he was pretty much unstoppable, especially if he had his outside shot going. Rose was must-watch tv every night during his MVP season. After his MVP season, you would think Rose was well on his way to the Hall of Fame if he could remain healthy.

After Rose’s outstanding season, he suffered a nasty ACL injury in the first round of the 2012 playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose missed all of the 2012-13 season. Rose returned in the 2013-14 season but only played ten games because a right meniscus inured causes him to miss the remainder of the season. The Bulls Star player returned the next season, but knee injuries continue, and he missed 30 games.

After spending one more year with the Bulls. Rose went to the New York Knicks, had a decent season, averaging 18 points per game. In the 2017-18 season, Rose spent time with Cleveland Cavaliers and did not play well, and a lot of people thought he was done.

Second Act

The Minnesota Timberwolves picked up Derrick Rose in March 2018. He joined up with former coach Tom Thibodeau and had a good playoff run with Minnesota; Rose averaged 14.2 points. The next season Rose returned to Minnesota and started to play well again. In Rose’s first start of the season, he scored a career-high 50 points against the Utah Jazz.

After not returning to the Wolves, Rose moved to the Detroit Pistons, where he is still playing. He is playing well off the bench for the Pistons. Rose is still able to get to the basket and is a much improved outside shooter.

So far in Rose’s career, he has over 11,000 points and is one of 11 players to have 5,800 points and 1,900 assists in his first four seasons. In a 3-year peak, Rose averaged 22.7 points, 7.1 assists,3.8 rebounds, on 46% shooting from the field, and 25.1 win shares. Also, Rose performs well in the playoffs, averaging 22.7 points and 6.6 assists per game, 40.6 mpg in 46 games. Rose’s second act will get him into the Hall of Fame.

It looks like the injuries are behind him, and he could play a few more seasons. Rose could get traded to a contender and get that ring to solidify his Hall of Fame career.
