Chauncey Billups – Assistant Coach

HS/College Career: Was Colorado Mr. Basketball 3x in high school and a McDonald’s All-American. Played two years at Colorado where he was 1st team All-Big 12 and 2nd team All-American.

Professional Career: Drafted 3rd overall by the Boston Celtics, Billups played 18 seasons in the NBA. He was a 5x All-Star, 2x 2nd team All-NBA Defense, All-NBA 2nd team, 2x All-NBA 3rd team, and won a NBA Championship while being the Finals MVP.

Dahntay Jones – Player Development Coach

Age: 40

Position: Forward

Height: 6’6

HS/College Career: Played two seasons at Rutgers, where he was on the Big East All-Rookie team, before transferring to Duke for two seasons. At Duke, Jones was on the All-ACC defensive team 2x and on the All-Conference team once.

Professional Career: Drafted in the 1st round by the Boston Celtics but traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. Jones played 13 seasons in the NBA and spent some time in the G-League, too. He won a NBA Championship in 2016.

Chad Bell – Player Development Coach

Age: 38

Position: Center

Height: 7’0

HS/College Career: Played two seasons at New Mexico before transferring to Nevada where he played for two more seasons.

Professional Career: N/A

Team Summary: Billups is one of the best players in this exercise, but there are certainly questions about his health. Jones is only three years removed from his last season in the NBA. They’re surrounded by two guys with D1 experience and one is legit 7 footer.

7. Cleveland Cavaliers

Andrew Olson – Player Development/Shooting Coach

Age: 34

Position: Guard

Height: 5’10

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Amherst. Won a national championship and was the DIII Player of the Year 2x.

Dan Geriot – Assistant Coach

Age: 32

Position: Center

Height: 6’9

HS/College Career: Played four years at Richmond and helped lead them to two NCAA tournament appearances.

Professional Career: N/A

Team Summary: This team has good balance. Buckner and Lang give them two solid NBA role players, but Olson may be the best player. He’s in his early 30s and was the best player in DIII basketball twice. I’ll put my money on him still being able to ball out.

Earl Barron – Player Development Assistant

Age: 39

Position: Center

Height: 7’0

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Memphis.

Professional Career: Played in 8 different seasons in the NBA, mostly with the Miami Heat. However, most of his professional career was spent overseas and in the D-League, where he was an All-Star. Also, won an NBA Championship.

Team Summary: While Barron was never a star in the NBA, he managed to stick around in the NBA for a while. He’s only three years removed from a professional basketball career. I have to imagine he’d be able to light it up in this hypothetical scenario.

Position: Forward

Height: 6’8

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at LSU.

Professional Career: Played professionally for about eight years. During this time, Lazare was a D-League All-Star and a NBL All-Star.

Corey Brewer – Player Development Coach

Age: 34

Position: Forward

Height: 6’9

HS/College Career: Was a McDonald’s All-American and played three seasons at Florida. Won two NCAA championships at Florida and was the Final 4 Most Outstanding Player once.

Professional Career: Drafted 7th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Played in the NBA for over a decade and won a NBA Championship.

Mark Bryant – Assistant Coach

Age: 55

Position: Forward

Height: 6’9

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Seton Hall and was first team All-Big East.

Professional Career: Was drafted 21st overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. Played in the NBA for 15 years.

Ben Strong – Player Development Coach

Age: 34

Position: Center

Height: 6’11

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Guilford (DIII). During his time, he won the DIII player of the year award and became second all-time in Guilford history in both points and blocked shots.

Professional Career: Played professionally for about eight years overseas and in the D-League.

Team Summary: While Bryant is up there in age, he gives this team some more NBA experience. Green, who was never more than a role player in the NBA, would be the star. Don’t count out Randle, who was one of the toughest players in college basketball when he was at Illinois.
