Which NBA coaching staff would win a 5v5 tournament?

26. Atlanta Hawks

Marlon Garnett – Assistant Coach

Age: 45

Position: Guard

Height: 6’2

HS/College Career: Played four years at Santa Clara and was the WCC Player of the Year.

Professional Career: Played briefly for the Celtics before playing in Europe.

Lloyd Pierce – Head Coach

Age: 44

Position: Guard

Height: 6’3

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Santa Clara and was honorable mention All-WCC. Went to sweet 16 with Steve Nash.

Professional Career: Played professionally overseas for four years.

Nate McMillan – Assistant Coach

Age: 56

Position: Guard

Height: 6’5

HS/College Career: Played two seasons at Chowan and two seasons at NC State. Also went to the Elite 8 2x.

Professional Career: Was drafted in the 2nd round by the Seattle Supersonics and played for them for 12 years. Was a 2x All-Defense 2nd team and 1x steals leader.

Chris Jent – Assistant Coach

Age: 51

Position: Forward

Height: 6’7

HS/College Career: Played four years at Ohio State (2x Big 10 champion).

Professional Career: Had a brief NBA career. Mostly played in the CBA and overseas.

Matt Hill – Assistant Coach

Age: 33

Position: Center

Height: 6’10

HS/College Career: Played four years at Texas. Mr. Nebraska and Gatorade Player of the Year his senior year of HS.

Professional Career: N/A

Team Summary: You have to have serious doubts about a team where Matt Hill may be your best player. After a great high school career, Hill struggled at Texas despite receiving plenty of playing time (maybe too much playing time). The most interesting fact about this team may be that Jent actually played in more playoff games than regular season games in the NBA.

27. Houston Rockets

Rick Higgins – Assistant Coach

Age: 33

Position: Guard

Height: 6’1

HS/College Career: Played two years at Cal Poly before transferring to Colorado for two years.

Professional Career: N/A

John Lucas – Assistant Coach

Age: 67

Position: Guard

Height: 6’3

HS/College Career: Played four years at Maryland. Was a 2x 1st team All-American.

Professional Career: Drafted 1st overall by the Rockets and was on the All-Rookie 1st team. However, struggled with drug addiction, but still played 14 seasons in the NBA.

Jeff Hornacek – Assistant Coach

Age: 57

Position: Guard

Height: 6’3

HS/College Career: Played four years at Iowa State where he was All-Conference 1st team. Also, set a Big 8 conference record for career assists.

Professional Career: Drafted in the 2nd round by the Phoenix Suns. Spent 14 years in the NBA with the Suns, 76ers, and Jazz. Won two three-point contests and was an All-Star once.

Stephen Silas – Head Coach

Age: 48

Position: Guard

Height: 6’4

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Brown.

Professional Career: N/A

DeSagana Diop – Assistant Coach

Age: 38

Position: Center

Height: 7’0

HS/College Career: Was a high school All-American and Virginia Player of the Year while playing at Oak Hill.

Professional Career: Drafted straight from high school with the 8th pick by the Cavaliers. Played over a decade in the NBA with the Cavaliers, Mavericks, Nets, and Bobcats.

Team Summary: Besides being the oldest player on this list, Lucas is probably the most underrated athlete on this list. Not only was he an incredible basketball player (and likely would’ve had even more success had it not been for a drug addiction), but he was one of the best D1 tennis players while at Maryland. He won the ACC singles championship twice. However, the fact remains that he’s almost 70 years old and this team probably would play through Diop, which is not great.

28. Portland Trail Blazers

Nate Tibbetts – Associate Head Coach

Age: 42

Position: Guard

Height: X

HS/College Career: Played at South Dakota and became the North Central Conference all-time leader in assists. He helped South Dakota win two conference championships and was named to the All-NCC team once.

Professional Career: N/A

Jannero Pargo – Assistant Coach

Age: 41

Position: Guard

Height: 6’1

HS/College Career: Played two seasons at Neosho County Community College before transferring to Arkansas for two seasons.

Professional Career: Played in the NBA for parts of eleven seasons. Also spent time in Greece, Russia, and the D-League.

Dale Osbourne – Assistant Coach

Age: 56

Position: Forward

Height: 6’6

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at South Alabama.

Professional Career: N/A

Jim Moran – Assistant Coach

Age: 42

Position: Forward

Height: 6’7

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at William & Mary. Moran was on the 2nd team All-CAA 2x.

Professional Career: Played for a decade in Spain.

Terry Stotts – Head Coach

Age: 63

Position: Forward

Height: 6’8

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Oklahoma and started all four seasons. During his time, he was named to the All-Big 8 team once.

Professional Career: Drafted in the 2nd round by the Houston Rockets, but never played in the NBA. Played professionally in the CBA and overseas for about a decade.

Team Summary: Another team hurt by a lack of options so 63 year old Stotts makes the lineup. Pargo at least gives them a solid go-to option and he’s only three years removed from playing in the G-League.

29. Dallas Mavericks

Jenny Boucek – Assistant Coach

Age: 47

Position: Guard

Height: 5’8

HS/College Career: Four year starter at UVA. Won the ACC regular season championship all four years and three Elite 8 appearances.

Professional Career: Spent a brief amount of time playing for the Cleveland Rockers of the WNBA. Also, was the Foreign Player of the Year while playing in Iceland, where her team won the championship.

God Shammgod – Player Development Coach

Age: 44

Position: Guard

Height: 6’0

HS/College Career: McDonald’s All-American that went to Providence. His accomplishments include Big East All-Rookie team his freshman year (set the Big East freshman record for assists) and an Elite 8 appearance.

Professional Career: Played briefly in the NBA for the Wizards before spending a decade overseas. Was the CBA leading scoring one season. Credited with the invention of “the Shammgod” crossover.

Darrell Armstrong – Assistant Coach

Age: 52

Position: Guard

Height: 6’1

HS/College Career: Played three years at Fayetteville State (DII). Was All-Conference 1st team and the slam dunk champion.

Professional Career: Went undrafted and played in the USBL (United States Basketball League). Was USBL All-Defensive team three times, second team All-USBL once, and first team All-USBL twice. Would go on to play in the CBA, Cyprus, and Spain where he would rack up multiple accolades. After about four years of playing in various minor and overseas leagues, Armstrong signed with the Orlando Magic. Would go on to enjoy a thirteen year career in the NBA where he won the 6th Man of the Year award and the Most Improved Player of the Year award.

Peter Patton – Player Development/Shooting Coach

Age: 46

Position: Guard

Height: 6’1

HS/College Career: Played four years at DePaul. Set a school record for three-point field goal percentage in a single season. Statistically, Patton is still in the top ten all-time in assists, steals, and three-point field goals at DePaul.

Professional Career: Played in the CBA before going to play overseas.

Jamahl Mosley – Assistant Coach

Age: 42

Position: Forward

Height: 6’8

HS/College Career: Played four years at Colorado. Was All-Big 12 3rd team.

Professional Career: Played a few seasons overseas in Australia, Finland, South Korea, and Spain. Was 6th Man of the Year while playing in Australia.

Team Summary: As much fun as Shammgod is to watch play, it’s probably not great if he’s your best player at 44 years old. Maybe Armstrong still has his game since he was a late bloomer.

30. New York Knicks

Johnnie Bryant – Associate Head Coach

Age: 35

Position: Guard

Height: 6’0

HS/College Career: Played one season at San Francisco City College before transferring to Utah for three seasons. Earned honorable mention for All-MWC 2x. Also, set the record for career three-point field goal percentage at Utah.

Professional Career: N/A

Andy Greer – Assistant Coach

Age: 58

Position: Guard

Height: 6’2

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Brockport

Professional Career: N/A

Larry Greer – Assistant Coach

Age: 53

Position: Guard

Height: 6’2

HS/College Career: Played at Northeastern.

Professional Career: N/A

Mike Woodson – Assistant Coach

Age: 62

Position: Guard

Height: 6’5

HS/College Career: Played four seasons at Indiana. Led the team to a NIT championship win and a Sweet 16 appearance.

Professional Career: Drafted 12th overall by the New York Knicks and played in the NBA for about a decade.

Kenny Payne – Assistant Coach

Age: 54

Position: Forward

Height: 6’8

HS/College Career: Played four years at Louisville and won a NCAA championship.

Professional Career: Drafted 19th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. Played five seasons for the 76ers before spending the rest of his professional career playing in the CBA and overseas.

Team Summary: With only one player younger than 53 years old, this team would get run off the court. However, shoutout to Andry Greer for playing at Brockport, where he was coached by Bill Van Gundy and played with both Jeff and Stan Van Gundy.
